Popis zážitku

The multiple parks in Muskauer Faltenbogen tell their own story. There are English gardens and parks, parks full of azaleas and rhododendrons, mysterious manor parks and newly created gardens featuring erratic rocks in mining areas. You can walk through
centuries here.

Discover the beauty of Prince Pückler’s Park, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Let‘s start with a park that is known far beyond the borders of Germany and Poland: the German-Polish park in Bad Muskau. It was added to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 2004 and is considered an outstanding example of English garden art in Europe, attracting over 400,000 visitors every year. Over a period of almost 30 years, Prince Pückler created a work of art with a grand chateau ensemble considering the geomorphological conditions – the curved relief, the Lake Nisa valley and a the mining-shaped landscape. An equally unique landscape experience is provided by the Brody castle park in the Polish part of the geopark. Over the last 15 years, restoration work has awoken these gardens from a deep slumber. Viewed from the village of Brody, the renovated castle and park ensemble takes on a very distinctive charm.

The mysterious genius loci of Kromlau

The southern part of the geopark is home to another hidden gem: the azalea and rhododendron park Kromlau. However, this park is not only picturesque during the bloom season
in May and June, when thousands of shrubs present their beauty simultaneously. The chateau and cavalier house, the shaded valleys and the majestic trees and bridges, especially the bridge over Rakotzsee lake with its basalt columns are like scenes from a movie all year round. The rhododendrons and azaleas thrive particularly well in the humid environment of the Muskauer Faltenbogen.

Wandering around erratic blocks The youngest of the parks is the Findlingspark Nochten erratic block park. It was established on the recultivated area of the Nochten brown coal surface mine, and it presents an extensive collection of over 7,500 Nordic erratic blocks that have been found in surface mines in Lusatia. The park shows these blocks along with various types of vegetation that blooms from early spring to late autumn. The image of Scandinavia stretches over one slope, with rocks typical of the respective regions.
