Děvín
A distinctive peak with the remains of an extensive medieval castle and the remains of iron ore mining.
Site Description
By local standards, this is a very steep hill, but you can reach the top along a comfortable wide path. A massive rock formation will appear in front of you, which can be reached by stairs. And it was on this rock that the Markwartinger family built a castle that was never conquered by an army. It’s no wonder, as conquerors had to crawl to the castle on all fours…
Its remains are vast, overgrown with beeches that are centuries old. A well was also preserved here, now covered with bars. Through the ruined walls you will see Hamr na Jezeře and the lake deep down below.

Do you know that...
Iron ore was mined in the galleries below Děvín, which was processed in hammer mills (forges). One of them used to stand in today’s Hamr na Jezeře, after which the village was named – Hamr (hammer). Bats spend the winter in the galleries covered with bars.
