Sagar Crafts and Industrial Museum
Site Description
Thanks to its clay deposits, the Muskauer Faltenbogen region was renouned for its ceramics factories for many years. Nowadays, it is home to workshops which manufacture contemporary products and work meticulously to maintain the traditional design. The main attraction in the village of Sagar is the crafts museum, where visitors can view an interesting collection of tools and appliances from the Muskau region and estate. Contemplating the exhibition and the powerful steam engine, it’s possible – if only for a moment – to transport oneself back to a bygone era and imagine the complete woodworking process from harvest to the use of the raw material. The museum also features a vertical sawmill, an aerial platform used in the manufacturing of wood shavings and many other exhibits. Additionally, a large collection of functional and decorative pottery from the region can be observed on the first floor of the building.
