Jabloneček

Today, one of the defunct villages of Ralsko is the venue for land art festivals.

Site Description

Two houses, a car park and silence. That is what Jabloneček looks like today, a village that had up to four hundred inhabitants during the First Czechoslovak Republic, a German and a Czech school, a church and, of course, houses. Today, cellars, wells and water tanks remain. The former German school is dilapidated, but it still stands. Only the hill remains of the Baroque church that once stood on it…

Most of the inhabitants of Jabloneček were Germans, who were displaced after 1945. They were replaced by soldiers when the Ralsko military training area was formed, and then by Soviet soldiers in 1968. They set up a missile base here, which could also be used for nuclear weapons. No one else came to Jabloneček after the soldiers; the once most guarded place in the military area is now freely accessible.
