Malý a Velký jelení vrch (SMALL AND LARGE DEER peak)

Peaks of volcanic origin with one of the most beautiful circular views in northern Bohemia.

Site Description

The peaks of volcanic origin will reward you for the difficult climb with one of the most amazing panoramic views in Northen Bohemia. Velký Jelení vrch, together with Malý Jelení vrch, are seated on a volcanic vein of basalt rock. The basalt rock rises to the surface at the tops of both hills and offers an illustrative example of the columnar detachment of the rock. At the very top of Velký Jelenní vrch, the basalt rock rises as a rock spike that offers a magnificent panoramic view. What’s more, the local rocks have been modelled heavily by frost erosion. Frost collapses and cliffs can be seen here. The area is significant for the presence of an original relict forest – beech forests with wych elms. The peak is partly covered with relict a thermophilous community (sorbus aria, rosa pendulina and melica transsilvanica). The slopes are covered with blossomy beech trees with the martagon lily and cardamine enneaphyllos. Malý and Velký Jelení vrch are protected as National Natural Monuments.
