Boulder bed of the Jerischke terminal moraine
Site Description
A boulder bed refers to a glacial deposit formation of boulders within a terminal moraine. The different-sized boulders transported with the glacier accumulated at the ice margin following glacial retreat, whereas finer material (sand, silt and clay) was transported away by the meltwater. The boulder bed near Raden is a Saale Glaciation (126 – 300 kya) relict of the Jerischke terminal moraine, which was formed in the Warthe Stage (130 – 140 kya). At this place, the moraine contains only a small amount of large debris, and extends over a width of 80 m with a difference in height of approximately 2 m.
