The Grenzerquelle spring
Site Description
At the site of the Grenzerquelle and adjacent Lachberge springs near Pusack, the Neiße has carved into the Muskauer Faltenbogen plateau to a depth of over 30 m. In a relatively small area of a periglacial side valley, several natural springs, which are collectively known as the Grenzerquelle spring, have their source. They join the valley from the groundwater as contact springs, meaning that the spring water accumulates at impermeable layers in the bank, “spilling over” upon reaching the escarpment. Its waters are, as is typical for the Faltenbogen, acidic and rich in iron, which can be identified by the presence of reddish brown iron slurry deposits. A hanging bog has developed just beneath the springs.
