Černý rybní (pond named Black)
Site Description
The dry sandstone landscape is home to many rarities. The water supply of Černý rybník is one of the most plentiful springs in Northern Bohemia. The area can be characterized as a gradually overgrowing pond littoral where sediments are deposited together with dead organic matter. This forms a transitional peat bog that became the home of many rare species of plants and animals. Among the critically endangered species, rhynchospora alba is home here. Endangered species include carex lasiocarpa, vaccinium oxycoccos or the carnivore drosera rotundifolia. From the vertebrates you can see the agile frog (rana dalmatina), the viviparous lizard (zootoca vivipara) or the common European viper (vipera berus). Insects are represented, for example, by the rare emperor dragonfly and the common hawker. Černý rybník is protected as National Natural Monuments. Please, do not enter the peat bog and stick to the designated paths. At the pond, there is an educational board of the Nature Conservation Agency, where you can learn more about the rare local fauna and flora.
