The Víšek Peak
Site Description
Víšek is an small peak made up of heavily eroded sandstone. On the Víšek peak, the best profiles are medium to coarse-grained sandstones of the middle part of the Jizera Formation. The axis of the peak is crossed in a north-south direction by a set of fully distributed veins of basaltoid with a strong veining of the surrounding sandstone. Some of the rock towers have the character of “lids” topped with a slab of ferruginous sandstone. The iron came into the local sandstone from the volcanic veins that run under the peak. There are iron crusts, iron tubes and interestingly curved incrustations.
