Držník Pond
Site Description
A twisted almost one century old veteran pine tree adorns the dam of the Držník pond. And it’s not the only one; in addition to massive pine trees, there are also ancient beeches and oaks that bend towards the water’s surface. Even the willow gives the impression that it has stood here since the 15th century, when the pond was built. Its surface is decorated with green water lilies, and you can feel the life below the surface. Shadows of fish flicker among the aquatic plants, and you can hear frogs, ducks and darker tones coming from the forest behind the dam. Naturalists love this nature reserve, including the adjacent peat bogs and wet meadows, as it is richly inhabited by plants and animals. There are over 698 species of butterflies alone!
