A hill with a rather violent history
Site Description
This sombre site of medieval executions dates back to the period in which the gorverning elite of the town of Trziebel held the right under so-called state law to punish wrongdoers “by the throat”. According to information from a heritage conservationist, the gallows were only used at the inception of their existence. One possibility is that their erection effectively discouraged bandits from their activities in the region – above all as they stood on a (now forested) hill which was clearly visible from the town.

Did you know that the specifc form of the gallows, known as a “water well”, is unique in the region? The nearest gallows of this kind are situated in the foothills of the Sudetes mountains, approximately 80 km away (Lubań, Jezioro Złotnickie, Wojcieszów).
How to Reach Us
Travelling from Łęknica in the direction of Żary, take the first exit on the roundabout after 13 km. Turn left after 700 m, then right and left again onto Tuplicka Road. After 1 km you will come to the gallows on the right-hand side
