U FLesla
Site Description
When you arrive at the charming place called Prameniště U Flesla, you will probably remember the poem “Znám křišťálovou studánku, kde nejhlubší je les…” (“I know a crystal clear well in the deepest part of the forest…”). However, this water reservoir that invites you to relax was used for something far from romantic at the time of the Ralsko military area: soldiers washed their cars and other machinery in it, as evidenced by the concrete ramp. And it’s not a well in the true sense of the word: it’s a spring area, which is a place where the groundwater level rises to the earth’s surface. The information panel explains it further.
There is also an old sandstone cross and a stone sculpture resembling a table and chairs. You can imagine it to be a living room in the middle of the forest. A hunting lodge stood here back in the 18th century, referred to in maps as Beym Flossel or Beim Flössel – i.e. U Flesla. Sit back and enjoy the peace in a place where only “dark ferns grow and red heather’s all around”.
