Vranovské skály

A smaller sandstone rock town with interesting formations in the form of rock windows.

Site Description

These sandstone rock formations are situated at the foot of the steep slopes of the Ralsko Mountain. You will see rock towers, windows and overhangs, and even some of the best rock mushrooms in the country “grow” here. The local sandstone is light in colour, making the rocks beautifully visible in the dark wild pine and beech forest. Only hints of carved rock remain of Vranovský Hrádek (Vranov Castle), which were only discovered recently. You will have to use your imagination for an image of what stood here – a medieval castle or a military fortification? Not even experts know yet. But you are sure to get a beautiful view from Juliina vyhlídka (lookout).

How to Reach Us

At the end of the village Vranov there is a small car park and signpost; here you can turn onto the red tourist trail passing through the Vranov valley. It also leads to Juliina vyhlídka (lookout). A trip to Vranovské skály would be best combined with an ascent to the top of Ralsko.
